Cyprus donates medicine to Aceh<\/p>\n
INDONESIA: The government of Cyprus has donated a plane-load of
\nmedical supplies to Aceh, the Cyprus Embassy in Indonesia said in
\na statement on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Cyprus Ambassador to Indonesia, Achilleas Antoniades, met
\nIndonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda on Monday to express
\nhis solidarity and support, on behalf of Cyprus, to the
\nIndonesian government and its people.<\/p>\n
Antoniades is a resident ambassador in Canberra.<\/p>\n
"The Cyprus government has pledged 1 million euros (US$1.3
\nmillion) to the common relief of the European Union, in addition
\nto aid in kind," the statement said.<\/p>\n
The non-governmental organizations in Cyprus, in a coordinated
\nfund-raising drive, have also raised another US$1 million.<\/p>\n
"This is a genuine expression of sympathy and solidarity with
\nthe Indonesian people at this difficult time from the people of

SAUDI ARABIA: Twenty-nine people were killed in Saudi Arabia's
\nwestern city of Medina this week after rain, described as the
\nworst in 20 years, and flood waters swept cars off roads and
\ndestroyed a bridge, a newspaper said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Another 17 people were wounded, Al-Madina quoted regional
\ngovernor Prince Muqrin bin Abdul-Aziz as saying.<\/p>\n
The rain, said by some local newspapers as the heaviest
\ndownpour in the desert country for two decades, hit western Saudi
\nArabia on Saturday and disrupted the last day of the haj
\npilgrimage in Mecca.<\/p>\n
"We have seen enormous damage to the roads, electricity and
\ncommunications," Prince Muqrin told the newspaper after touring
\nthe flood-hit area. Al-Madina published pictures of a collapsed
\nbridge and cars swept into palm trees by the force of the water.
