Indonesia's Customs and Excise at Tanjung Priok port have intensified inspections of imported goods, successfully reducing a backlog of containers flagged for high-risk checks from 3,100 in May to 700 by mid-June. The accelerated 'red line' operation has led to the discovery of various imported items, including frozen buffalo meat from India and electrical components from China. The initiative aims to curb illegal imports while easing port congestion through extended working hours and additional inspection facilities.

Bea Cukai Tanjung Priok is accelerating the inspection of imported
goods entering the port to prevent illegal imports and reduce the
backlog of containers awaiting examination. The number of containers
under inspection has dropped drastically from 3,100 in May to
approximately 700 as of 17 June 2026.

“From nearly 3,100 containers last May, the number has now decreased
to around 700 hot outstanding containers. We have resolved many of them
with the additional inspection areas we prepared,” an official stated on
Wednesday (17/6/2026).

This progress results from efforts by Tanjung Priok Customs to reduce
container pile-ups. Measures implemented include increasing inspection
personnel, adding inspection locations at the Jakarta International
Container Terminal (JICT) and TPK Koja, extending inspections into the
night, and adjusting services.

“To anticipate this situation, we are using operational measures from
upstream to downstream. This involves accelerating processes for all
parties, both stakeholders and the terminal operators, together with
Customs,” he explained.

During inspections on the red line on Wednesday (17/6/2026), a
variety of imported goods were found. These included frozen buffalo meat
from India under the Allana brand, white floral-patterned bags from
China, and electrical items such as lamps from brands Lovov, Semny, and
Lanbo, also originating from China. Other goods included rolls of PVC
for banners and electric motor dynamos from China.
",
