        "content": "<p>Customers flood YLKI with complaints about TV Media<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Disappointed customers have flooded the<br>\nIndonesian Consumer Foundation (YLKI) with complaints about<br>\nshoddy goods and late delivery of TV Media products.<\/p>\n<p>Foundation chief Tini Hadad told The Jakarta Post Saturday the<br>\ncustomers claim that the products they receive are different from<br>\nthe ones that TV Media advertises.<\/p>\n<p>A TV Media marketing officer, Linda, said on Saturday she<br>\ncould not comment on the consumer foundation&apos;s report. She said<br>\nTV Media executives were unavailable.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;All of the executives are not here, some of them are<br>\ntraveling abroad,&quot; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Tini said the most common complaint is about late delivery.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The advertisement promises that the consumers will receive<br>\nthe particular goods within two weeks, but in reality some<br>\nconsumers receive them very late,&quot; Tini said.<\/p>\n<p>Tini said the consumer foundation found that TV Media&apos;s agents<br>\nblamed the post office and other package-forwarding companies for<br>\nlate delivery.<\/p>\n<p>The foundation&apos;s consumer complaint division official,<br>\nSudaryatmo, said that TV Media&apos;s agents should not blame the<br>\npostal and delivery services if orders don&apos;t get to their<br>\ncustomers on time.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;They should have estimated how long it would take the goods<br>\nto reach the customers,&quot; he told the Post.<\/p>\n<p>Sudaryatmo also said that some customers complained that the<br>\nquality of products they received are different from what TV<br>\nMedia advertises on television.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The ads offer American-made products, but the consumers<br>\nreceived Taiwan-made ones,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sudaryatmo also criticized the after-sales services for TV<br>\nMedia products. &quot;It&apos;s not clear who is responsible for after-<br>\nsales services of the products; the agent here or the<br>\nmanufacturers,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;If it&apos;s the agent who is responsible for the after-sales<br>\nservices, they don&apos;t have enough knowledge of the products<br>\nbecause all of the items sold are imported products,&quot; Sudaryatmo<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Citing an example, he said that one of the consumers<br>\ncomplained about the set of Sumi knives advertised by TV Media.<br>\nThe customer reported that the agent refused to replace knives<br>\nbroken during use.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The agent simply said that they are not responsible for the<br>\nextra knives,&quot; Sudaryatmo said.<\/p>\n<p>Rajawali Citra Televisi (RCTI)&apos;s spokesman Murdyadi Ichsan<br>\nsaid the stations which broadcast the advertisements for the<br>\nproducts should not be held responsible for the consumers&apos;<br>\ncomplaints about TV Media.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We only broadcast advertisements which have already been<br>\napproved by the Film Censorship Institute. So, if there are some<br>\ncomplaints about the advertisements, don&apos;t blame the media,&quot;<br>\nMurdyadi told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n<p>He said that if the agent of the products is facing lawsuits<br>\nfrom consumers, or they are proven to have deceived consumers,<br>\n&quot;We will withdraw the advertisements without hesitation. No<br>\nproblem,&quot; Murdyadi said. &quot;But, as long as there is no lawsuit<br>\nagainst a TV Media agent, it&apos;s impossible to refuse ads,&quot; he<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>He said that television stations cannot conduct tests on<br>\nproducts. &quot;YLKI, as the foundation for consumers, is the one that<br>\nshould test the products, not the TV stations,&quot; Sudaryatmo said.<\/p>\n<p>Tini said she believed that the people who filed complaints<br>\nabout TV Media products with the consumers foundation represent<br>\nonly a few of those who have similar problems.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Indonesian consumers are not used to this kind of shopping<br>\nmethod, ordering the products through television, and they just<br>\naccept whatever condition of the products they get,&quot; Tini said.<\/p>\n<p>In other countries, shopping through television never presents<br>\nmuch difficulty, she said. &quot;Maybe because the consumers are more<br>\neducated than here, so the producers don&apos;t dare to cheat them.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Tini said the consumer foundation has yet to determine if the<br>\nquality of the products sold by TV Media here is lower than that<br>\nof items sold in other countries, or in the country where the<br>\nproducts are manufactured.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesian consumers are generally willing to buy products<br>\nthey have never seen before, Tini said. She suggested that in<br>\norder to avoid being disappointed, people should go to the TV<br>\nMedia showrooms before they decide to buy. (31)<\/p>",
