        "content": "<p>The Director of Economics at the Center of Economic and Law Studies\n(CELIOS), Nailul Huda, has stated that customers have rights over their\naccounts in the banking system in accordance with the Banking Law and\nconsumer protection legislation. Huda made the remarks in response to\nthe case of Bank Mandiri blocking the account of a coordinator of the\nPati United Community Alliance (AMPB).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCustomers have the right to withdraw money, obtain information, and\nso forth regarding the accounts they own,\u201d Huda said when contacted by\nRepublika in Jakarta on Monday (24\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Huda said banks are merely entrusted by customers to safeguard money\nstored in the form of accounts. This means, he said, unilateral blocking\nby a bank violates customer rights under the Banking Law and consumer\nrights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is what has occurred in the case of Bank Mandiri blocking the\nAMPB account at the request of law enforcement officials,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Huda explained that blocking can indeed be carried out under certain\nconditions based on the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), which should be\naccompanied by notification regarding the matter constituting a criminal\noffence. If either of these two elements is absent, Huda continued, the\nbank and the law enforcement officials requesting the blocking have\nviolated the law.<\/p>",
