The East Jakarta City Government has constructed a boxing arena and skateboard facility under the Pasar Rebo flyover to provide positive outlets for youth energy and prevent street brawls among teenagers. Mayor Munjirin stated that the initiative aims to channel young people's talents into sports, with the facilities set to be inaugurated on 12 May. Local officials hope these public spaces will foster community engagement, ensure proper management, and potentially produce national and international athletes.

The East Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jaktim) is building a boxing
arena under the Pasar Rebo flyover. The arena is intended to allow the
younger generation to channel their energy into sports and stay away
from brawls. “The area will later be equipped with a boxing arena, which
is expected to serve as a place for children and teenagers to channel
their talents and energy in a positive direction rather than engaging in
brawls,” said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin, as reported by Antara on
Thursday (7/5/2026). The boxing facility, located under the Pasar Rebo
flyover in Susukan Ward, Ciracas Subdistrict, is hoped to become a
container and public space to prevent brawls among teenagers. In
addition to the boxing facility, a skateboard park is being built under
the Pasar Rebo flyover. These positive activity facilities for the
community, especially teenagers, are planned to be inaugurated on 12
May. Boxing and Skateboard Arena to Curb Brawls Meanwhile, Ciracas
Subdistrict Head Panangaran Ritonga said that the arrangement of the
area is a direct instruction from the East Jakarta Mayor to make the
space under the Pasar Rebo flyover neater, more comfortable, and usable
by the public. “First, the Mayor asked us to carry out activities to
tidy up the area around the Pasar Rebo flyover in Susukan Ward, Ciracas
Subdistrict,” said Ritonga. “There is a boxing activity, a boxing ring,
which we hope will be inaugurated directly by the Governor. We certainly
want to welcome his presence with a neater and more appropriate area
condition,” he added. He explained that the tidying process involves
repainting several facilities and surrounding areas because the previous
condition looked dull due to dust and faded paint. “The condition is
indeed due to dust, and the old paint has faded, so we are repainting to
make it cleaner and more attractive,” said Ritonga. He hopes that the
existence of the boxing facility can become a solution to reduce brawl
actions that often involve teenagers. Sports facilities like this can
also serve as positive containers to direct youth energy. “Rather than
brawling, it’s better for their energy to be channelled in sports
arenas. So this area becomes a public space for the community to enjoy
facilities while channelling their hobbies and talents,” he explained.
Regarding Arena Management In its management, the subdistrict will
involve local elements such as neighbourhood associations (RT, RW) and
community protection units (LMK) as supervisors. The main responsibility
lies at the ward level. The arena management will be handled by parties
that regulate usage schedules, training activities, and matches. “We
will formalise the management to ensure the sustainability of these
facility infrastructures. So it’s not open for anyone to play freely,
but there is a manager who regulates match and sports schedules,” said
Ritonga. Each sports branch will have management representatives to
ensure all activities remain coordinated with the surrounding
environment, including if there are events requiring police permits for
crowds. The government also hopes that the area under the Pasar Rebo
flyover remains clean and beautiful, providing positive impacts for the
surrounding environment. “We hope that this boxing and skateboard
facility can encourage people to engage in sports. Hopefully, athletes
will emerge who can reach national and even international levels and
bring honour to Indonesia,” said Ritonga.
",
