Corporate Communications representative Riana\nRifani stated in Surabaya on Monday (29\/6) that young people have tended\nto be more consumptive, buying new items such as mobile phones. Now,\nPegadaian is providing a significant opportunity for them to save in\ngold. \u201cDon\u2019t let them use their funds for consumptive purposes, but\nrather have a future-oriented vision for their future,\u201d she said.\nAccording to Riana, gold has consistently proven to be a safe-haven\ninvestment instrument and an excellent hedging tool, not only for older\npeople but also for the younger generation. Data from Pegadaian as of 31\nMay 2026 shows active millennial customers reached 2,791,933, Gen X\ncustomers totalled 1,465,518, and Gen Z customers numbered 1,435,757.\nRiana emphasised that many young people are gradually realising the\nimportance of gold savings to support their future. \u201cThe data shows Gen\nZ is starting to realise the importance of saving gold,\u201d she said. Riana\nacknowledged that many Gen Z individuals still make mistakes in setting\nfinancial goals, for example prioritising the purchase of the latest\ngadgets over saving. However, the \u2018Zilenial\u2019 generation is now slowly\nbecoming more open to investment, especially through digital gold\nsavings. She explained that gold has the advantage of being highly\nliquid and can function as an emergency fund. At Pegadaian, gold savings\ncan not only be sold back (buyback) but also pawned online via the\napplication or directly at branch offices. Regarding gold price\nfluctuations, Riana explained that the value of gold has experienced\nsignificant growth. Over a 10-year period, the value of gold can\nincrease up to fivefold. The current price has reached around Rp2.7\nmillion per gram and is predicted to break through the Rp3 million mark.\n\u201cFor users of the Pegadaian application, the percentage return on gold\nsavings can be monitored directly. This makes it easy for customers,\u201d\nshe said. Pegadaian also offers facilities for customers with limited\nfunds through a gold instalment scheme. Riana explained that this\nconcept uses a down payment starting from 10 percent, with the remaining\nbalance paid in fixed instalments until settlement. \u201cThe gold price is\ndetermined at the start of the transaction. Even if the BI Rate rises,\nthe rupiah weakens, or the world gold price increases during the\ninstalment period, the customer\u2019s instalment amount will not increase,\u201d\nshe stated. Pegadaian\u2019s various strategies are developing rapidly.\nApplication transactions in May 2026 amounted to Rp22.8 billion, rising\nto Rp25.9 billion in June 2026.
