        "content": "<p>Cultural expo opens tonight<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Vice President Try Sutrisno is scheduled to open<br>\nWest Java's Cirebonan cultural exhibition tonight at the Bentara<br>\nBudaya cultural center in Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition, part of the Second Istiqlal Festival of<br>\nIslamic Arts and Culture, will be open to the public from Oct. 28<br>\nto Nov. 5 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., while cultural performances<br>\nwill begin at 7:30 p.m. each night.<\/p>\n<p>Cirebonan refers to the art and cultural innovation made by<br>\nthe Islamic kingdom in Cirebon, West Java.<\/p>\n<p>The event has been organized jointly by the Budaya Sunyaragi<br>\nFoundation and Bentara Budaya.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of the organizing committee, Subrata, said yesterday<br>\nthat the 10-day cultural event would see dances, puppet shows and<br>\ntraditional music shows.<\/p>\n<p>Subrata, who is director general for press and graphics, is<br>\nalso the choreographer of the dances.<\/p>\n<p>Among the dances to be performed are Topeng Kelana, Gema Adzan<br>\nTujuh, Genjring Akrobat, Kuda Lumping, Sampyong, Tarling and<br>\nSintren.<\/p>\n<p>The Cirebonan batik, masks, puppets, furniture and some 100<br>\nglass paintings will also be displayed, Subrata said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the organizers want to support traditional arts.<\/p>\n<p>\"Traditional arts will be annihilated unless it is backed up<br>\nand supported,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The opening ceremony will be preceded by Topeng Kelana dances<br>\nperformed by about 200 young dancers, he added.
