        "content": "<p>CSIS seminar to review Aussie-RI ties<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Center for Strategic and International<br>\nStudies (CSIS) will host a seminar here beginning tomorrow to<br>\nreview the state of relations between Indonesia and Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The four-day conference, to be divided between Jakarta and<br>\nSurabaya, will focus on strategic, economic and political<br>\ninterests between the two countries, CSIS Vice Chairman Hari Tjan<br>\nSilalahi told reporters yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The Research Institute for Asia and the Pacific (RIAP) of the<br>\nUniversity of Sydney will co-sponsor the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Australian foreign minister, Gareth Evans, is scheduled to<br>\ngive a keynote address, and there will be a presentation on<br>\nbehalf of his Indonesian counterpart, Ali Alatas, who is still<br>\nrecovering after recent heart surgery in Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>Other speakers include CSIS Chairman Jusuf Wanandi, RIAP<br>\ndirector Tim McDonald and his deputy, Desmond Ball, Juwono<br>\nSudarsono of the University of Indonesia and CSIS chief economist<br>\nMari Pangestu.<\/p>\n<p>A closed forum in Surabaya beginning on Sunday will discuss<br>\nchanging Australian and Indonesian societies and the impact on<br>\nbilateral relations, both countries&apos; experiences of economic<br>\nreform and deregulation, the role of the media, lessons from AFTA<br>\nand the ANZ-CER (Australia and New Zealand-Closer Economic<br>\nRelationships) and the future of Australia-Indonesia relations.<\/p>\n<p>During the conference, which is being held within the<br>\nframework of the Australia Today Indonesia 94 trade and cultural<br>\npromotion currently underway, an emphasis will be place on<br>\nobserving the sister-city relationship between various states in<br>\nAustralia and provinces in Indonesia.
