Crush GAM if
\nthey betray<\/p>\n
The public was shocked to learn from the army chief of staff
\nGen. Ryamizard Ryacudu that the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) had shot
\nAcehnese and members of the Indonesian military. According to the
\nIndonesian military, since the signing of the Cessation of
\nHostilities Agreement between the Indonesian government and GAM
\nin Geneva, Switzerland, on Dec. 9, GAM has violated the agreement
\n24 times.<\/p>\n
Prior to the signing of this agreement, some circles worried
\nthat it was difficult to trust the commitment of GAM to comply
\nwith the Geneva agreement. Now their worry has been justified. It
\nseems that some units in GAM have continued to provoke hostility
\nbetween GAM and the Indonesian military.<\/p>\n
Of course, not all GAM resistance units will boycott the peace
\nagreement but the violations referred to above strongly suggest a
\ntendency towards boycotting the agreement.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian military has decided not to pursue GAM
\nfollowing these violations. This shows that our military is not
\nprovoked and proves the military's commitment to support the
\npeace agreement. However, this attitude will not be useful if GAM
\ncontinues to violate the agreement.<\/p>\n
Perhaps the military must consider crushing GAM units that
\nhave intentionally violated the peace agreement.<\/p>\n
The greater public is really annoyed to see the defensive
\nstance of the military vis-a-vis the offenses of GAM.<\/p>\n
