This time, investigators raided a warehouse on Jalan\nRaya Tengger Kandangan No.\u00a092\/59-I, Benowo, Surabaya, strongly suspected\nof being connected to money laundering (TPPU) stemming from illegal gold\nmining.<\/p>\n<p>The search operation lasted several hours, from approximately 11.30\na.m. to 3.00 p.m. local time, at the four-storey building. Local\nresidents reported seeing a number of plainclothes officers wearing\nBareskrim vests entering and exiting the premises, assisted by uniformed\npersonnel from Surabaya Metropolitan Police (Polrestabes Surabaya) and\nBenowo Sector Police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, they said they were from National Police headquarters. There\nwere also officers from Polrestabes Surabaya and Benowo Sector Police.\nAs for what was searched and what was taken away, I don\u2019t know,\u201d said a\nsource at the location who declined to be named, quoted on Monday, 23\nFebruary 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The warehouse had reportedly been in operation for approximately six\nyears. It was originally used as a swiftlet nest storage facility but\nwas later suspected of having been converted into a gold smelting site\nprocessing ore from illegal mines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt used to be for bird\u2019s nests, but later they say it became a gold\nsmelting warehouse \u2014 I don\u2019t know exactly,\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n<p>The raid forms part of a continuing series of enforcement actions by\nBareskrim to dismantle suspected money laundering operations linked to\nillegal gold mining. Previously, investigators also searched a house on\nJalan Tampomas, Surabaya.<\/p>\n<p>From that location, officers seized a number of items of evidence,\nincluding gold bars. The search, which took place from Thursday, 19\nFebruary 2026, from midday until approximately 8.00 p.m., concluded with\ninvestigators removing four containers believed to contain gold\nevidence.<\/p>\n<p>Director of Special Economic Crimes at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier\nGeneral Ade Safri Simanjuntak, said the search was conducted from 11.00\na.m. to 8.00 p.m. The investigation team from Dittipideksus Bareskrim\nPolri recovered several items of evidence linked to suspected money\nlaundering originating from illegal gold mining.<\/p>\n<p>The successive operations indicate that investigators are actively\ntracing the flow of funds and the networks behind the alleged illegal\ngold business.
