        "content": "<p>Crime worries in Batam<\/p>\n<p>BATAM, Riau: The number of Indonesian businesspeople of<br>\nChinese descent owning firearms is reportedly on the rise in<br>\nBatam island,Antara reported.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of the Batam chapter of the Chinese Brotherhood,<br>\nSuhendro Gautama, said here on Wednesday there were increasing<br>\nreports of Chinese businesspeople being the target of various<br>\ncrimes.<\/p>\n<p>However, he stressed that the targeting of Chinese<br>\nbusinesspeople was not racially motivated.<\/p>\n<p>\"As I see it, there is no ethnic factor in the crimes. It is<br>\npurely money-motivated\".<\/p>\n<p>To reduce the incidence of the crime against Chinese<br>\nbusinesspeople, he advised his colleagues to assimilate better in<br>\nsociety, for instance, by working together to strengthen the<br>\nneighborhood security watch.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile Antara quoted sources as saying that illegal<br>\nfirearms can be easily smuggled into Batam and were sold for Rp 7<br>\nmillion each.<\/p>",
