'Crack down on illegal alcohol outlets'<\/p>\n
The city administration recently issued a circular banning the
\nsale of liquor in supermarkets and hypermarkets. The Jakarta Post
\nspoke with people here for their thoughts on the policy.<\/p>\n

It really depends on the administration's intention. If it
\nwants to limit the distribution of alcoholic beverages then
\nbanning supermarkets and hypermarkets from selling liquor will be
\nquite effective, provided of course that regular monitoring is
\ndone.<\/p>\n
I am Muslim, so for me the regulation is great, but I wonder
\nabout other people who are not Muslim, such as expatriates, who
\nare used to drinking regularly. I guess this is unfair to them.<\/p>\n
It would be better if the sale of alcoholic beverages was
\nrestricted to certain ages and religions. After all, isn't it
\nsimpler to check a person's identity card to determine their age
\nand religion rather than banning liquor outright.<\/p>\n

I think it is enough to put an age restriction on the purchase
\nof alcoholic beverages. There is really no need for an outright
\nban on the sale of liquor in supermarkets.<\/p>\n
If people really want to get drunk, they don't need to get
\ntheir liquor at a supermarket; it's much cheaper to buy from
\nillegal shops. Now, why doesn't the administration regulate those
\ninstead?<\/p>\n
I would say the administration is killing one of its sources
\nof income, which is companies that sell liquor. Why not just tax
\nit so high that only certain people can afford to buy liquor?<\/p>\n
