Cow dung tarnishes university ceremony<\/p>\n

Refusing the presence of President Megawati Soekarnoputri,
\nstudents from the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) blocked
\nthe entrance gate in their Dermaga campus barring other high
\nranking government officials and dignitaries as well.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, IPB was to host a ceremony to appoint Minister of
\nMaritime Affairs and Fisheries Rokhmin Dahuri as a professor in
\nCoastal and Marine Resources Management.<\/p>\n
Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs
\nSusilo Bambang Yudhoyono was among the dignitaries who was barred
\nfrom attending the ceremony. He was forced to make U-turn and
\nleave before reaching the campus compound. Megawati called off
\nher visit yesterday, after fears of just such a demonstration
\nwere brought to her attention.<\/p>\n
In addition to blocking the entrance, the students also hurled
\nfresh cow dung at the VIP vehicles to express their disgust with
\nthe current administration, particularly in light of the utility
\nprice increases decreed on Jan 2.<\/p>\n
Some invitees, however, managed to enter the campus and
\nattended the ceremony which included a lecture by Rokhmin.<\/p>\n
The invitees included Minister of Forestry Mohamad Prakosa,
\nGorontalo Governor Fadel Muhammad and West Java Police Chief
\nInsp. Gen. Dadang Garnida as well as several foreign ambassadors.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, IPB's rector Ansori Mattjik said he would take
\nstern measures and crack down on all students as a result of the
\ncow dung hurling.<\/p>\n
"They should have let the invitees enter the campus to listen
\nto a scientific speech," he said as quoted by www.detik.com
