Court opens hearing into local election<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The Supreme Court held its first hearing on Thursday
\nto determine the validity of the results of last month's
\ngubernatorial election in South Sulawesi, which saw the posts of
\ngovernor and deputy governor going to Sinyo Sarundayang and
\nFreddy Sualang.<\/p>\n
The challenge to the results was filed by two losing tickets
\n-- Maj. Gen. (ret) Ferry FX Tinggogoy and Hardi Paputungan; and
\nWenny Warauw and Marhainy Pua.<\/p>\n
"The election was unjust and there was fraudulent voting.
\nTherefore, we want the Supreme Court to annul the appointment of
\nSinyo Sarundayang and Freddy Sualang as governor and deputy
\ngovernor of South Sulawesi," the defeated candidates said in
\ntheir petition.<\/p>\n
The plaintiffs also urged the court to order the local general
\nelections commission to hold a re-election across the province.<\/p>\n
Presiding Judge Man Suparman adjourned the case until Friday.
