        "content": "<p>Court issues decree on election disputes<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The Supreme Court has issued a decree for resolving<br>\ndisputes about the results of direct regional elections, Chief<br>\nJustice Bagir Manan said during the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Bagir said all election disputes would be handled by the<br>\nSupreme Court but that it could delegate lower courts to handle<br>\ncases in certain situations.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Supreme Court Decree No. 1\/2005 on<br>\nprocedures to challenge election results, there would be no<br>\nformal hearings in disputes, with judges only examining election<br>\ndocuments submitted by the conflicting parties.<\/p>\n<p>Plaintiffs would be required to register their complaints<br>\ndirectly to district courts across the country as the Supreme<br>\nCourt did not recognize files sent by email or faxes.<\/p>\n<p>Some regions are scheduled to hold direct elections for<br>\ngovernors, regents and mayors in June, in what would be the first<br>\ndirect election of regional leaders in the country. -- JP<\/p>",
