Court examines PRD's evidence<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Central Jakarta District Court judges trying a
\nlawsuit filed by the Democratic People's Party (PRD) against a
\nnumber of former top state officials examined on Wednesday the
\nwritten evidence presented by lawyers of the plaintiff.<\/p>\n
The former state officials concerned include former president
\nSoeharto, former home ministry Yogie S. Memet, former Armed
\nForces chief Gen. (ret) Feisal Tanjung and former Jakarta
\nMilitary commander Lt. Gen. (ret) Sutiyoso.<\/p>\n
The panel of judges also approved the names of several people
\nproposed by the lawyers to testify in the next hearing. They are
\nWartono, the father of PRD chairman Budiman Sujatmiko; Veronica,
\nwho was accused of harboring wanted antigovernment activist Garda
\nSembiring; Catholic priest Sandiyawan Sumardi; political observer
\nArbi Sanit and legal expert Loebby Loqman.<\/p>\n
A rally staged by some 40 PRD activists outside the courtroom
\nmarked the hearing. They urged the court to also try several
\nGolkar Party top executives and former military leaders for
\nmasterminding the bloody takeover of the Indonesian Democratic
\nParty's headquarters on July 27, 1996.<\/p>\n
The hearing was adjourned until next Wednesday, when
\nwitnesses' testimonies will be heard. (01)<\/p>",
