Course for election officers<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A two-day course for officers in charge of
\noverseeing the election procedures began yesterday in Sunter,
\nNorth Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Deputy Governor for Administrative Affairs Idroes, reading
\nGovernor Surjadi Soedirdja's opening address, told the 232
\nparticipants to pay special attention to the campaigning period
\nfrom April 27 to May 23.<\/p>\n
He also told participants to give equal treatment to all
\ncontestants: Golkar, the United Development Party and the
\nIndonesian Democratic Party. The two parties have charged Golkar
\nwith unfair election practices.<\/p>\n
"Equal treatment means all (contestants) have the same rights
\nand obligations to support an election of high quality," Surjadi
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The course covers election procedures such as vote counting
\nand lectures on recent social and political developments. A
\nrepresentative of the City Police will lecture on safeguarding
\ncampaigns and vote counting.<\/p>\n
R.Bagus Suharyono, head of the city's social and political
\noffice, said scheduled lecturers also included those from the
\nCity Military Headquarters and the Prosecutor's Office.<\/p>\n
