Couples invited to diving event<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Thai beach city of Trang, which is famous
\nfor its underwater beauty, will host an underwater wedding
\nceremony on Feb. 14 to coincide with St. Valentine's Day.<\/p>\n
Thirty couples from various countries, including Indonesia,
\nwere invited to take part in the ceremony, according to Agkarajit
\nPanomwon na Ayutthaya, General Manager of Thai Airways
\nInternational of Indonesia, said.<\/p>\n
\"Accommodations and airfares for participants would be
\nprovided and paid for by Thai Airways. Each pair is required only
\nto have an open water diving certificate,\" he said in a press
\nrelease which was made available to The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
He said that the ceremony would be registered in the Guinness
\nBook of Records as the world's largest underwater marriage
\nceremony ever held. Similar ceremonies so far have included only
\none or two couples.<\/p>\n
The participants are expected to come largely from Europe --
\nEngland, France and Germany -- as well as the Asia Pacific
\ncountries like Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, China, the Philippines,
\nSingapore, India, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and the host
\ncountry, Thailand, he said.<\/p>\n
\"Married pairs wishing to renew their vows in spectacular and
\nmemorable fashion could also take part provided they meet the
\nqualifications,\" Agkarajit said.<\/p>\n
He said that eligible couples would be selected at the leading
\ndive clubs in association with Thai Airways offices in each
\ncountry. \"The selection process starts on January 15,\" he added.<\/p>\n
He said that the underwater wedding concept came forward
\nbecause the Thai Government wanted to promote Trang for its
\nunderwater beauty.<\/p>\n
\"So far, foreign tourists have been interested only in Phuket
\nor Pattaya. We want them to visit Trang as well when spending
\ntheir vacations in our country,\" Agkarajit said, adding that his
\ncompany has made available travel packages with special prices to
\nthose planning to visit Trang to see the underwater ceremony.
