The police have, in their integrated operation, successfully
\nnabbed some of the members of a syndicate making a large amount
\nof counterfeit Rp 50,000 banknotes.<\/p>\n
Ironically, the banknotes were printed with the picture of
\nformer president Soeharto, while the new Rp 50,000 banknotes
\ndepict Soepratman.<\/p>\n
Therefore, it is now time for the government to take
\npreventive measures, namely by withdrawing the banknotes in
\nquestion from circulation. This can be done in stages because the
\npresence of counterfeit money in the community is now causing
\nalarming concern to the entire community. One of my neighbors, a
\nmeatball vendor, has received fake Rp 50,000 banknotes twice --
\ntwo each time. He had to borrow money to be able to make meat
\nballs to sell the next day.<\/p>\n
The government should take into account the people's plight
\ncaused by the circulation of counterfeit money.<\/p>\n
