Council's Tarmidi replaced by Agung<\/p>\n

A City Council leadership meeting agreed on Monday to replace
\ncouncil deputy chairman Tarmidi Suhardjo with councillor Agung
\nImam Sumanto, known to be a staunch supporter of recently
\nreelected Governor Sutiyoso.<\/p>\n
City Council deputy chairman Chudlary Syafei Hadzami said the
\nreplacement was made based on a decision of the Indonesian
\nDemocratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan), to which both
\ncouncillors belong.<\/p>\n
\"According to Law No. 4\/1999 on provincial legislatures, the
\nposition of council deputy chairman represents the party. So it
\ndepends on the party to replace them,\" Chudlary said after the
\nmeeting.<\/p>\n
He said the council would soon send a letter to the Ministry
\nof Home Affairs to approve the replacement of Tarmidi, who failed
\nin his bid to win the governor's seat in the election on Sept.
\n11.<\/p>\n
Separately, Tarmidi said he was upset the decision to replace
\nhim was made during a meeting at which he was not present.<\/p>\n
\"I'm still the deputy chairman, appointed by a decree from the
\nMinistry of Home Affairs. They should respect that,\" Tarmidi told
\nreporters.<\/p>\n
PDI Perjuangan's central board dismissed Tarmidi as the
\nparty's city chapter chairman last week, for disobeying the
\nparty's order to support Sutiyoso in the gubernatorial election.
\nIt appointed councillor Sumiati Sukarno as acting chairwoman of
\nthe party's city chapter.<\/p>\n
The party also sent warning letters to two of its councillors,
\nDadang Hamdani and Ugiek Soegihardjo, for the same reason.<\/p>",
