Councilors asked to resign<\/p>\n
BOGOR (JP): Five hundred supporters of the ousted Indonesian
\nDemocratic Party (PDI) leader Megawati Soekarnoputri went to the
\nBogor Legislative Council on Saturday to demand the resignation
\nof councilors from the government-backed faction of the PDI.<\/p>\n
\"The councilors are not from PDIs Bogor branch office,\" the
\nprotesters' spokesman M. Sahid said.<\/p>\n
The protesters also urged Bogor police chief Col. Abubakar
\nNataprawira to resign for his alleged involvement in the takeover
\nof the PDI headquarters in Jakarta on July 27, 1996.<\/p>\n
They accused Abubakar of helping the government-backed PDI
\nfaction to storm the headquarters when he was Central Jakarta
\nPolice chief.<\/p>\n
The delegation urged councilors who received them to demand
\nthat the Bogor mayor to dismiss corrupt officials and to give
\nmore attention to small traders.<\/p>\n
As usual, the councilors who received the protesters promised
\nto channel their complaints to the relevant authorities.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, graduates of Bogor Institute of Agriculture held an
\npro-reform festival featuring songs and poems on their campus
\ngrounds.<\/p>\n
\"We want to remind students that reform has not yet finished,\"
\nAgus Priyono, a member of the organizing committee, said.
