Councillors to submit wealth report<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: In the face of mounting public pressure, city
\ncouncillors finally agreed to submit individual reports on their
\nwealth and assets to the Public Servants' Wealth Audit Commission
\n(KPKPN), city council deputy chairman Djafar Badjeber said on
\nTuesday.<\/p>\n
The councillors decided to submit the report mainly out of a
\nsense of moral obligation, Djafar, who is also chairman of the
\ncity chapter of the United Development Party, told reporters on a
\nsidelines of a dialog on Council versus KPKPN at Cempaka Hotel.<\/p>\n
He said Law No. 28 on KPKPN did not specify councillors as
\npublic servants.<\/p>\n
The councillors urged the House of Representatives to review
\nthe law and include them as public servants so that they could
\nreceive a monthly salary and pension.<\/p>\n
The dialog, which featured constitutional law expert Bintan
\nSaragih, KPKPN's chief Yusuf Syakir, Ferry Mursyidan Baldan of
\nthe House of Representatives and councillor Syarifien Maloko,
\nconcluded that it was subject to debate whether or not the
\ncouncillors were bound by law to declare their wealth. --JP<\/p>",
