Councillor's home looted by mob<\/p>\n

An angry group of creditors continued looting on Sunday the house
\nof Metro city councillor, who is being detained by police as a
\nsuspect in an illegal banking operation.<\/p>\n
It was not clear why police took no action against the
\nlooters.<\/p>\n
The looting began on Saturday at the home of Slamet Supardi, a
\nmember of the Metro legislative council from the Concern for
\nNation Functional Party (PKPB) and the director of PT Graha Artha
\nMashindo (Grasindo).<\/p>\n
The group began occupying the house on Thursday evening but
\nrefrained from looting. Members said they were creditors of the
\ncompany that allegedly operated an illegal loans scheme under the
\nguise of a savings and loans cooperative.<\/p>\n
Edi, who was minding the residence on Jl. Yos Sudarso, West
\nMetro, said he was powerless to act when dozens of people arrived
\nand took valuables from the property.<\/p>\n
\"They looked very angry, and I could not stop them,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Arriving with trucks and several cars, the group removed all
\nthe household appliances and furniture, including the washing
\nmachine, refrigerators, rice cookers, Edi said.<\/p>\n
Slamet was arrested on Friday as a suspect in the illegal bank
\noperation at Lampung Police Headquarters. His wife and children
\nhave since left the city.<\/p>\n
Slamet's neighbors said they had seen the looting of the
\nhouse, which Slamet reportedly bought for Rp 150 million
\n(US$16,666) a few months ago.<\/p>\n
\"I don't know what happened to Pak Slamet. This morning I saw
\npeople taking goods away from his house,\" a neighbor said on
\nSunday.<\/p>\n
The police have arrested another Grasindo director, Sucipto,
\nand company commissioner Sanuri, confiscating assets of the
\ncompany worth around Rp 4.8 billion, and sealing its eight
\noffices in Lampung.<\/p>\n
The firm's eight branch office heads -- Yusri Adi, Dwi
\nHaryanto, Tri Anani, Lamingun, Bintoro, Edi, Eli Hartana and Abu
\nZubaidah -- have not been detained but are obliged to report to
\npolice twice a day.<\/p>",
