        "content": "<p>Corruption plagues Thai poll rerun<\/p>\n<p>BANGKOK (AFP): Allegations of rampant corruption have surfaced<br>\nduring advance voting in the rerun senate elections in Thailand,<br>\nafter the first round was tarnished by vote buying, reports said<br>\non Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>After the original Senate polls on March 4 were marred by vote<br>\nbuying, the Election Commission announced a rerun on April 29 in<br>\nconstituencies where the winner was disqualified for cheating.<\/p>\n<p>Samut Prakan election committee officials told the Bangkok<br>\nPost that candidates in the new ballot had handed out cash at<br>\nparties celebrating the Thai New Year.<\/p>\n<p>The prime minister's office minister, Jurin Laksanavisit, told<br>\nreporters the senate elections would be repeated again and again<br>\nif the corruption continued.<\/p>\n<p>Second round voting in 35 provinces will send 78 candidates to<br>\nthe upper house, where they will join 122 other senators endorsed<br>\nafter the original polls.<\/p>",
