The crimes committed by corruptors are greater in magnitude
\nthan those involving ordinary street criminals, many of whom are
\nforced to perpetrate offenses due to critical circumstances,
\nignorance, poverty and other desperate problems.<\/p>\n
Corruptors, on the other hand, are motivated by personal or
\ngroup interests, with the aim of enriching themselves through
\ndeception, discrimination, as well as the abuse of rights and the
\ncountry's natural resources.<\/p>\n
In their attempt to cripple the system and render it
\nineffective, the impact they cause to the social aspects of
\npublic life is also devastating. Meanwhile, Indonesia has so far
\nfailed to raise the social standards of its people.<\/p>\n
The programs for elimination of illiteracy and reduction of
\nschool dropout rates, for instance, have failed. This has been
\ndue to the tug-of-war between interest groups vying for their
\nillegal commission and the lack of concern for the nation's
\npriority problems.<\/p>\n
