        "content": "<p>Corning wins PGN's contract<\/p>\n<p>NEW YORK: Corning Inc. won a contract to supply undersea<br>\noptical cables to a state-owned gas company in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>A Corning spokeswoman wouldn't disclose the value the<br>\ncontract, although she said it was \"relatively small.\"<\/p>\n<p>Corning said in a press release Tuesday that Indonesia's PT<br>\nPerusahaan Gas Negara will use the company's Vascade L1000 fiber,<br>\nwhich is designed for short-haul undersea routes.<\/p>\n<p>The Corning spokeswoman noted that this marks the first time<br>\nthis type of cable will be used in the region. The project should<br>\nhelp the company further develop inroads into the market there,<br>\nshe said.<\/p>\n<p>Corning, which makes optical fiber, cable and photonic<br>\nproducts for the telecom industry, said the network will connect<br>\nSumatra to Singapore via the Indonesian island of Batam.
