A \u2018life-course\u2019 approach is essential to ensure that societal needs\nare interconnected and that benefits are felt across generations,\naccording to the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture\n(PMK).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe life-course approach is important so that the needs of the\ncommunity can be interconnected and the benefits can be felt across\ngenerations,\u201d said Woro Srihastuti Sulistyaningrum, Deputy for\nCoordination of Family Quality Improvement and Population at the\nCoordinating Ministry for PMK, in Jakarta on Thursday.<\/p>\n
According to research by the DBS Foundation titled \u201cIndonesia\u2019s\nDemographic Transition: Building Readiness Today for a Better Tomorrow\u201d,\nan ageing society is defined as a situation where 10 per cent of the\npopulation is over the age of 60.<\/p>\n
In Indonesia, the elderly population has already reached 12 per cent\nin 2025 and is projected to exceed 20 per cent by 2045. Consequently,\nthe demand for support for the elderly population will increase, placing\ngreater pressure on both current and future productive generations.<\/p>\n
Woro stated that the government plays a vital role in strengthening\ncross-sectoral policies as part of a long-term development agenda,\nranging from access to education and healthcare, employment\nopportunities, and social protection, to services that support quality\nof life in old age.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to ensure that every stage of life receives the appropriate\nattention, from early life and education to productive age and entering\nold age,\u201d Woro added.<\/p>\n
She noted that various government programmes are currently directed\ntowards strengthening the quality of human resources while ensuring that\nthe needs of the community at every phase can be met. \u201cWith this\napproach, we are not only preparing society to face old age, but also\nbuilding a foundation so that they can lead healthy, productive, and\nprosperous lives from an early age,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, the DBS Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to\nassisting the social and financial readiness of vulnerable populations\nacross generations.<\/p>\n
