The Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and\nCorrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, suspects the attack on Andrie Yunus,\ndeputy coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of\nViolence (Kontras), was organised.<\/p>\n
Yusril stated that the pattern of the attack indicates evidence of\norganised planning. Therefore, the law enforcement process must not stop\nat the level of perpetrators in the field but must also identify the\nintellectual authors behind it.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe pattern of attack that occurred appears to be planned and\norganised, so the disclosure of this incident should not stop at the\nexecutor level, but must also uncover the intellectual actors behind\nit,\u201d Yusril said in a written statement in Jakarta on Friday, 13 March\n2025.<\/p>\n
For this reason, Yusril requested law enforcement officials,\nparticularly the National Police (Polri), to investigate the case\nthoroughly. It is not merely about finding the perpetrators and their\nmotives, but also revealing who is behind the incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cI request law enforcement officials, particularly Polri, to ensure a\nthorough investigation up to the intellectual actor, not just the\nperpetrators of the attack in the field,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Yusril revealed that he has directly coordinated with the Metro Jaya\nPolice Chief and the National Police Criminal Investigation Directorate\nwho are jointly investigating the case. \u201cAt present they are still\nconducting in-depth investigations, so they cannot yet disclose anything\nto the public,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, Yusril also appealed to the public to await the\nresults of the police investigation so that the incident can be revealed\nclearly and objectively.<\/p>\n
\u201cI urge the public to await the results of the police investigation\nso that this matter becomes crystal clear. Violence like this must not\nbe tolerated. Whoever and whatever the motive of the perpetrators, they\nmust be prosecuted according to applicable law,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Yusril also affirmed that President Prabowo Subianto has a high\ncommitment to upholding the law, democracy, and human rights. Therefore,\nthe government will never tolerate violence in any form, whether against\nactivists or anyone else, even if they disagree or are at odds with the\ngovernment.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs you can see, the President also invited those who often disagree\nwith the government to engage in open dialogue at the Palace. The\nPresident will not tolerate violence against activists or anyone else,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Yusril called the acid attack on Kontras activists an assault on\ndemocratic values and the enforcement of human rights in Indonesia. He\nnoted that human rights activists work for the interests of the people\nand the country because the enforcement of human rights and democracy is\na constitutional mandate.<\/p>\n
According to Yusril, in a democratic state, every party must uphold a\nmutual respect for different perspectives. He emphasised that violence\nagainst democracy and human rights activists cannot be justified under\nany circumstances.<\/p>\n
