        "content": "<p>Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs General\n(Ret.) Djamari Chaniago has urged the public to be vigilant against the\nthreat of extremism leading to terrorism in the digital realm. He stated\nthat the digital space, initially used positively, is now being misused\nfor terrorist purposes, including the spread of propaganda, recruitment,\nand financing. \u201cWe need to be vigilant about how our society utilises\nthe digital space as we understand it today,\u201d Djamari said in Jakarta on\nMonday. \u201cThrough digital media, hoaxes, disinformation, slander, and\nhatred are spreading widely. Ultimately, very pessimistic ideas are\nspreading among young people,\u201d he remarked. The structure of the\nterrorist threat has shifted from centralised to decentralised,\nmanifesting in small, independently operating groups. This is reflected\nin the phenomenon of nihilistic violent extremism developing through\ndigital communities. \u201cViolence no longer stems from a single ideology,\nbut from the glorification of violence itself, identity seeking, and\npsychological vulnerabilities that are exploited, particularly in\nchildren,\u201d said Djamari. Indonesia is not immune to these challenges.\nThe National Police\u2019s Densus 88 Anti-terror unit recorded that 115\nchildren across 21 provinces were exposed to violent online communities\nand 132 children in 26 provinces were exploited by terrorist networks in\nthe first half of 2026. He therefore welcomed the strengthening of\ncollaboration under Presidential Regulation No.\u00a08 of 2026 concerning the\nNational Action Plan for the Prevention and Countering of Violent\nExtremism Leading to Terrorism for 2026\u20132029. \u201cIt contains 111 actions\nacross nine strategic themes involving 70 ministries, agencies, and\nstakeholders. These figures reflect a national commitment and a mandate\nthat must be translated into real action on the ground,\u201d he explained.\nHe requested all ministry and agency leaders to align programmes and\nbudgets to support terrorism prevention efforts, implement impactful RAN\nPE actions, and pay special attention to youth and children to support\nthe achievement of Golden Indonesia 2045. He also called for the\nstrengthening of regional government roles through the formulation and\nimplementation of regional action plans. \u201cI ask the Ministry of Home\nAffairs and BNPT to provide assistance, monitoring, and capacity\nbuilding for regions to accelerate these efforts,\u201d he said. Furthermore,\nthe Coordinating Minister encouraged stronger synergy and multi-party\ncollaboration as a shared responsibility of all national components in\npreventing terrorism domestically.
