The Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, General\n(Ret.) Djamari Chaniago, is optimistic that forest and land fires\n(karhutla) in South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan are being brought\nunder control through cross-agency collaboration and the readiness of\nweather modification techniques.<\/p>\n
\u201cLooking at the fire hotspots in Central Kalimantan and South\nKalimantan, I am optimistic that these can be extinguished because all\nnecessary support is available and all resources can be deployed,\u201d he\nstated during an inspection of fire prevention efforts in Banjarbaru,\nSouth Kalimantan, on Saturday.<\/p>\n
He expressed this optimism after personally observing joint task\nforces conducting firefighting operations in Central Kalimantan and\ncontinuing to the Peramuan Ujung area in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan,\nwhile ensuring the readiness of personnel and equipment at field\nposts.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government has prepared various handling measures, ranging from\nreconnaissance operations to weather modification operations, which can\nbe implemented immediately once atmospheric conditions meet the\nrequirements for cloud seeding,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to the Minister, weather modification operations can be\ncarried out towards the afternoon if conditions are favourable, whereas\nif opportunities arise at night, implementation can be coordinated with\nairport authorities to ensure aircraft can be deployed for cloud seeding\nmissions.<\/p>\n
He emphasised that handling forest fires is a shared responsibility\nrequiring support from all parties, including the government, security\nforces, volunteers, the media, and the public, noting that environmental\nissues are directly linked to human safety.<\/p>\n
Consequently, Djamari urged the public to support firefighting\nefforts and not to obstruct field officers.
