Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, AHY, says the government is continuing to oversee the Giant Sea Wall project and hopes implementation will mature by 2027. The 575-kilometre coastal defence scheme aims to protect the Pantura coast from land subsidence and sea-level rise, while safeguarding food security, industry zones and coastal communities. The project is divided into 15 segments and will involve cross-regional planning with local governments.

Jakarta – The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional
Development (Menko IPK), Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), said the
government continues to oversee the Giant Sea Wall project. “I have
conveyed and reported to the President that we are still overseeing this
project in 2026, and hopefully by 2027 its implementation will be more
mature,” AHY said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday. He described the
Giant Sea Wall programme as part of protecting the North Java coast from
land subsidence and rising sea levels. He added that the government is
refining the road map and coordinating across regions so the strategic
project can be realised soon. For background, AHY said the Giant Sea
Wall Pantura is a key national strategic priority under President
Prabowo Subianto. The 575-kilometre project is designed not only for
coastal protection but also for food security, the industrial area, and
the safety of millions of coastal residents. The North Java Coast
Authority (BOPPJ) stated that the Giant Sea Wall along Pantura Java is
divided into 15 segments. BOPPJ head Didit Herdiawan Ashaf said the
agency is conducting outlining and infrastructure grounding activities
to run in tandem, with eventual implementation in collaboration with
local government from district to provincial level. Of course, building
the Giant Sea Wall on Pantura Java is not just to protect factories and
offices, but there are lives and ecosystems there, and the most numerous
ecosystem is that of the fishermen.
",
