        "content": "<p>Sorong (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs,\nZulkifli Hasan, has asserted that development in the Land of Papua must\ninvolve indigenous communities and provide them with direct\nbenefits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDevelopment and the equitable distribution of development must\ninvolve indigenous peoples and ensure they receive the benefits. If it\ndoes not benefit the people, then we must question that development,\u201d he\nstated while opening the PAPEDA Summit 2026 in Sorong, Southwest Papua,\non Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the government must place greater trust in the\nPapuan people in determining and executing the direction of\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe Papua must be given full trust,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs attended as one of the\nkeynote speakers at the Papua Action for Development, Economy, and\nSustainable Nature (PAP_EDA) Summit 2026, held from 2\u20134 September 2026\nin Sorong.<\/p>\n<p>He also expressed alignment with the views of the Governor of\nSouthwest Papua, Elisa Kambu, regarding the importance of ensuring that\nindigenous communities derive tangible benefits from development.<\/p>\n<p>The PAPEDA Summit 2026 carries the theme \u201cCelebrating Papua Action\nfor People, Environment, and Sustainable Development,\u201d placing humanity,\nthe environment, and culture as the foundations of development in the\nLand of Papua.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairman of the PAPEDA Summit 2026, Julian Kelly Kambu, reported\nthat the event was attended by approximately 1,030 participants,\nincluding representatives from central and regional governments,\nindigenous communities, academics, the private sector, research\ninstitutions, civil society organisations, development partners, and the\ninternational community.<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of three days, the forum discussed five strategic\nagendas: the alignment of central and regional government policies for\nsustainable development and climate action; the recognition and\nprotection of indigenous rights; the development of a New Nature\nEconomy; the strengthening of food and energy sovereignty; and the\nintegration of science, innovation, and local wisdom through a\ndevelopment approach spanning from the mountains to the sea.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed hope that the forum would produce concrete\ncollaborations to preserve Papua\u2019s natural wealth while ensuring that\nthe benefits of development are shared fairly by the communities living\nin and protecting the region.<\/p>",
