he Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), is pushing for accelerated development in Papua.<\/code><\/pre>\n\u201cDevelopment in Papua must be conducted holistically, not just\nthrough road connectivity, but also by strengthening basic\ninfrastructure that directly touches the lives of the people,\u201d said\nMinister AHY in Jayapura on Friday.<\/p>\n
According to AHY, infrastructure development is a crucial part of the\ngovernment\u2019s efforts to reduce inequality and ensure that the benefits\nof economic development are felt by all Indonesians, including the\npeople of Papua.<\/p>\n
\u201cDevelopment, especially economic development, belongs to everyone;\nit is not just for the people of Java, for example, it belongs to the\npeople of Papua. Moreover, we are striving to reduce poverty and\ninequality,\u201d stated the Coordinating Minister.<\/p>\n
He explained that clean water is a fundamental necessity directly\nlinked to public health, livestock, and agriculture.<\/p>\n
\u201cClean water is the source of life. Without clean water, it is\ndifficult for all of us to live; life becomes unhealthy, not to mention\nfor our livestock and our crops. Therefore, clean water is vital,\u201d said\nA
AHY.<\/p>\n
His office has requested the ranks of the Coordinating Ministry for\nInfrastructure and Regional Development to oversee programmes that can\nincrease access to clean water for the community in the region,\nincluding the need for decent housing, sanitation facilities (MCK), and\nlatrines.<\/p>\n
In the education sector, Minister AHY emphasised that human\ndevelopment must go hand in hand with infrastructure development. He\nnoted that every child must have the opportunity to grow up healthy\nwhile receiving a good education.<\/p>\n
\u201cPoverty is broken by education,\u201d said AHY.<\/p>\n
The government continues to encourage the development and\nrevitalisation of schools, including through the \u2018Sekolah Rakyat\u2019\n(People\u2019s School) Programme, which is one of the central government\u2019s\nkey initiatives.<\/p>",
