        "content": "<p>Cooperatives and SMEs Minister Ferry Juliantono is encouraging\ncooperatives to change their orientation from merely managing\ninstitutional aspects to becoming entities that actively develop\nbusiness and enterprise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are now also continuing to push cooperatives to build business\nand enterprise development patterns to enter the production sector,\nreturn to the distribution, industrial and financial sectors,\u201d Ferry\nsaid at the Fifth Congress of Wahdah Islamiyah in Jakarta on Saturday,\nas quoted from a press statement.<\/p>\n<p>Ferry said cooperatives have so far tended to focus more on\ninstitutional aspects, while business and enterprise development has not\nbeen a primary concern.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, administrative activities such as annual member\nmeetings are indeed important in cooperative governance. However, the\nholding of annual member meetings should be followed up with cooperative\nbusiness development.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that this transformation is part of President Prabowo\nSubianto\u2019s mandate to carry out major reforms of cooperatives so that\nthey can once again become one of the drivers of the national\neconomy.<\/p>\n<p>In this transformation process, Ferry said the Ministry of\nCooperatives is preparing a number of strategies, including rebranding\ncooperatives, promoting digitalisation, and improving cooperative\ngovernance.<\/p>\n<p>Ferry said rebranding is needed to change the image of cooperatives,\nwhich have often been considered outdated business entities, especially\namong the younger generation.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the ministry is encouraging existing cooperatives to\nutilise digital technology in running their business activities.\nAccording to Ferry, cooperatives that do not keep up with technological\ndevelopments risk being left behind.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the government is also promoting cooperative\ndevelopment through collaboration with various parties, including\nIslamic boarding schools and community groups.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry, he continued, is even initiating the formation of\ncooperative business entities within mosque environments so that\neconomic activities can provide benefits to congregants.<\/p>",
