Cooperation 'necessary' in terror fight<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Marty
\nNatalegawa said on Monday unilateral actions against terror
\nsuspects would harm the global war on terrorism.<\/p>\n
He said that at the upcoming informal meeting of foreign
\nministers of member states of the Association of Southeast Asian
\nNations (ASEAN), cooperation in the fight against terrorism would
\nbe on the agenda.<\/p>\n
ASEAN foreign ministers are to meet in Phnom Penh in January.<\/p>\n
Marty said that although the meeting would be held against the
\nbackdrop of worsening relations between ASEAN countries and
\nAustralia, the meeting would not focus on statements from
\nAustralia about preemptive strikes against terrorists in other
\ncountries.<\/p>\n
\"The upcoming meeting will not directly respond to the
\nproposal of Australian Prime Minister John Howard,\" Marty said.<\/p>\n
He underlined that ASEAN member countries would uphold the
\nUnited Nations charter ensuring the sovereignty of all states.
