Convicted killer Yongki doesn't fear execution<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Even though the date of his execution is
\nbelieved to be just few days away, 35-year-old convicted murderer
\nKartacahyadi, alias Yongki, has shown no fear to face a group of
\narmed personnel who will end his life.<\/p>\n
\"I'm fine and in good condition,\" Yongki told The Jakarta Post
\nearly this week.<\/p>\n
The convicted murderer said he was ready to face capital
\npunishment although he had no idea of the date of his execution.<\/p>\n
On Monday, head of the City Prosecutors Office, Soeyoto, said
\nYongki's execution is all prepared.<\/p>\n
The implementation \"is only waiting for the decree from the
\nCentral Java Prosecutors Office,\" Soeyoto said.<\/p>\n
\"The execution will be carried out here,\" he said but refused
\nto explain exactly where.<\/p>\n
Executions remain closed to the public, despite criticism and
\ndemands that the authorities review the law and allow the public
\nto view executions in order to deter other would-be criminals.<\/p>\n
In most cases, a group of 10 mobile brigade police officers
\nare assigned to carry out executions.<\/p>\n
Of the 10 personnel, some of them unknowingly have unloaded
\nrifles.<\/p>\n
\"So nobody knows who shoots the convicted person,\" a senior
\npolice general told the Post recently.<\/p>\n
Yongki, a resident of Jakarta, was sentenced to death by the
\ndistrict court in Surakarta, Central Java, in 1990 for the brutal
\nmurder of three people during a house burglary.<\/p>\n
The house Yongki robbed belonged to Utomo Kasidi, a distant
\nrelative of his. The three victims were Utomo's 11-year old son
\nDanny, Utomo's 40-year-old brother Sasongko Suryo, and a 23-year
\nold housemaid, Lasiyem.<\/p>\n
The government has agreed to Yongki's request that he be
\nexecuted in Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Yongki's accomplice, Tugiman, also received the death sentence
\nand is waiting for a reply from the president to his request for
\nclemency.<\/p>\n
The convicted men made off with valuables they found in the
\nhouse, and Utomo's car. The total loot was estimated to have been
\nworth about Rp 40 million (US$18,000). (bsr)<\/p>",
