Controversy over Deciles: DPR Demands BPS Update Data<\/p>\n

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) held a hearing with House of\nRepresentatives (DPR) Commission X at the DPR Building on Wednesday,\nSeptember 2, 2026. During the session, Commission X Deputy Chairperson\nLalu Hadrian Irfani noted that discussions centered on discrepancies\nbetween official socio-economic decile ratings and actual living\nconditions on the ground.<\/p>\n
Throughout the meeting, Lalu called on BPS to update the data. \u201cWe\nalso asked BPS to explain to the public what data sources are being used\nto determine these decile rankings,\u201d he told reporters following the\nmeeting at the DPR Building in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 2,\n2026.<\/p>\n
Lalu also urged BPS to expedite the review process for citizens\nseeking to dispute or correct their decile classification. This urgency\nstems from the fact that access to social assistance hinges on an\nindividual\u2019s decile ranking within the National Integrated Social and\nEconomic Database (DTSEN). \u201c[Eligible citizens] should have received\nthis aid, but because of decile issues, they ultimately missed out,\u201d\nLalu emphasized.<\/p>\n
Commission X requested that BPS resolve any filed decile disputes\nwithin a maximum timeframe of two weeks. Lalu confirmed that BPS agreed\nto adopt the proposal.<\/p>\n
Earlier, numerous residents voiced frustration over their DTSEN\ndecile status, arguing that the classifications misrepresent their\nactual economic conditions. In response to these complaints, BPS\nexplained that affected citizens can submit requests for data\nverification via channels managed by the Ministry of Social Affairs.<\/p>\n
BPS Main Secretary Zulkipli noted that citizens can review their\nstatus through the Social Assistance Check feature. Should they identify\ninaccuracies in their recorded decile ranking, they may file an appeal\nthrough the objection section on either the BPS DTSEN portal or the\nSocial Ministry\u2019s Social Assistance Check platform to request a\nre-evaluation reflecting their true economic standing.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf stated that the\ngovernment remains open to data corrections for citizens whose assigned\ndeciles do not match reality. \u201cWe ask the public to report any cases\nwhere aid recipients are actually ineligible, or conversely, where\neligible individuals have been excluded, so we can fix it immediately,\u201d\nSaifullah said after attending a hearing with DPR Commission VIII in\nSenayan, Jakarta, on Monday, August 31, 2026.<\/p>\n
He added that citizens can submit updates through established\nadministrative and public-participatory channels. The formal route\ninvolves consultations at the neighborhood and community unit (RT\/RW)\nlevels, progressing through the sub-district office to local social\nservices via the SIKS-NG application. Alternatively, the participatory\nroute allows direct submissions through the Social Assistance Check\napplication, call center, or WhatsApp center.<\/p>\n
