Contractors fail to keep their promise<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The South Korean and local contractors carrying
\nout the construction of the Grogol-Pluit elevated toll road have
\nfailed to repair the drainage system in Jelambar, damaged by
\ntheir sloppy work.<\/p>\n
Local residents said on Saturday that they had had to repair
\nthe damaged drainage system themselves last week after waiting in
\nvain for months.<\/p>\n
\"We decided to repair the drainage system ourselves since the
\ncontractors never kept their word,\" Endung, a resident, said.<\/p>\n
West Jakarta's public order officials helped residents repair
\nthe drains on Saturday with very limited equipment.<\/p>\n
The residents had earlier criticized Kuk Dong, the South
\nKorean contractor and its local partners for their sloppy work.<\/p>\n
The installment of piers along the Grogol river has also
\nnarrowed the waterway and caused flooding in the area.<\/p>\n
Residents have written to the contractor saying that 300 homes
\nhad been flooded because a pipe above the Grogol river was
\nblocked.<\/p>\n
Last month the residents said that the contractors apologized
\nto the residents through the media for the inconvenience, but
\nfailed to say when they would finish construction and deal with
\nthe damage.<\/p>\n
Kuk Dong has repeatedly been reprimanded by the city public
