        "content": "<p>Consumers foundation stresses its impartiality<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Consumers Foundation stressed<br>\nyesterday it received complaints with an open mind so as not to<br>\nbe exploited by business rivals.<\/p>\n<p>Foundation chief Tini Hadad said the foundation was always<br>\nwary of the possibility that a complaint was filed by a business<br>\ngroup aiming to discredit competitors.<\/p>\n<p>\"With their complaint lodged with the foundation and published<br>\nin the media, people hope these products won't sell,\" she was<br>\nquoted as saying by Antara.<\/p>\n<p>She said her organization verified the name and address of<br>\nconsumers who filed complaints before deciding whether to act.<\/p>\n<p>\"We ignore all anonymous complaints on the assumption they<br>\ncome from a manufacturer who wants to discredit his or her<br>\ncompetitors,\" she said.<\/p>\n<p>Last year the most complaints lodged with the foundation dealt<br>\nwith the unsatisfactory quality of biscuits, syrup, dates,<br>\ndrinking chocolate, formula milk, bottled water, meat, soft<br>\ndrinks, chili sauce and cakes.<\/p>\n<p>Tini said consumers reported the goods they had bought were<br>\nbeyond their sell-by date, stank and were distasteful.<\/p>\n<p>Presenting the foundation's assessment of this year's public<br>\nservices, Tini noted \"significant improvements\" over last year in<br>\nthe recent Idul Fitri transport services.<\/p>\n<p>At Jakarta's Pulogadung bus terminal, for example, transport<br>\nauthorities built more entrances and exits for buses to reduce<br>\ncongestion.<\/p>\n<p>She also praised the government for its ability to control<br>\nprices of basic household goods shortly before and after the Idul<br>\nFitri holiday.<\/p>\n<p>\"Last year, prices around the Idul Fitri holiday season rose<br>\nby up to 100 percent.<\/p>\n<p>\"The government has succeeded in stabilizing prices of<br>\nfoodstuffs this year as it provided more than enough supplies for<br>\nthe Idul Fitri season,\" she added.<\/p>\n<p>Tini said the state-owned telecommunications company PT Telkom<br>\nshould improve its services as it ranked third after housing and<br>\nelectronic products in terms of the number of consumer complaints<br>\nreceived this year.
