        "content": "<p>Consuls urge more visible security<\/p>\n<p>DENPASAR: Foreign consuls here have asked for assurance from<br>\nBadung regent Anak Agung Gde Agung on the efforts to maintain<br>\nsecurity in the regency, particularly in the aftermath of Oct. 1<br>\nbombing in its tourism magnets of Kuta and Jimbaran.<\/p>\n<p>R. Jantzen, German honorary consul in Bali, had asked the<br>\nregent to ensure a permanent security practice.<\/p>\n<p>\"The Badung regency should work out a sustainable and<br>\nmethodical security effort,\" Jantzen was quoted by Antara as<br>\nsaying on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>He suggested that uniform security officers patrol the areas.<br>\nHe said that the presence of security officers in tourism sites<br>\ncreated a sense of security.<\/p>\n<p>Jantzen also said the regent should prevent bird flu from<br>\nspreading in Bali. \"If a bird flu epidemic hits Bali, it will<br>\nimmediately lose its attractiveness to tourists,\" he said on the<br>\nsidelines of a lunch with the regent in Kuta.<\/p>\n<p>I Gusti Bagus Yudhara, the Mexican consul in Bali, also shared<br>\nJantzen's concern.<\/p>\n<p>\"We hope there will be a sustainable effort, not just a<br>\ntemporary one,\" he said. He also suggested the authorities build<br>\na database to detect potential criminals.<\/p>\n<p>Regent Gde Agung assured the foreigners that there would be<br>\ncontinuous efforts to maintain security.<\/p>\n<p>He said after the Oct. 1 bombing, police had been patrolling<br>\ncrime hot spots. Volunteers from the local community are being<br>\ntrained by the police to help in the patrol.<\/p>\n<p>He said that he would issue a regulation obliging hotels and<br>\nentertainment centers to install a Closed-Circuit Television<br>\n(CCTV) surveillance camera as a minimum security standard. \"In a<br>\nlong run, we plan to install CCTVs at all public places and<br>\ntourist sites,\" Antara quoted Gde Agung as saying. -- JP<\/p>",
