"summary": "Indonesia's Constitutional Court (MK) held a hearing on Wednesday to review the material constitutionality of Law No. 2 of 2002 on the National Police (Polri), listening to testimonies from representatives of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the President. The petitioners, led by lawyers Christian Andrianus Sihite and others, challenge Articles 8(1) and 8(2) of the law, arguing that Polri's direct subordination to the President violates the 1945 Constitution and enables discrimination against advocates opposing the government. This case, filed in February 2026, highlights ongoing debates about police independence and potential reforms to place Polri under the Ministry of Home Affairs.",
