Consortiums eye 49% stake in Soekarno-Hatta<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Two foreign international airport consortiums
\nare eying a 49 percent stake in Soekarno-Hatta International
\nAirport in Jakarta, an official at the Ministry of Transportation
\nand Communications said on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The director general of air communications, Soenaryo
\nYosopratomo, said the two were the consortium of Schiphol Airport
\nof the Netherlands and the British Airport Authority, and the
\nconsortium of Aeroport de Paris and Germany's GTM.<\/p>\n
\"Negotiations with both consortiums are still in progress,\" he
\nsaid during a meeting with House of Representatives Commission IV
\nfor infrastructure and transportation affairs.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, AP news agency reported that Pantares, which is a
\nconsortium of Frankfurt airport and Amsterdam's Schiphol airport,
\nis planning to launch a bid for a 49 percent stake in Soekarno-
\nHatta.<\/p>\n
\"More than 100 airports worldwide are poised for
\nprivatization. Pantares is confident it will participate to an
\nappropriate degree,\" the news agency quoted both airports as
\nsaying in a joint statement.<\/p>\n
Frankfurt airport, continental Europe's busiest, is teaming up
\nwith Schiphol to develop services ranging from retailing to
\ninformation technology in the hotly contested global airport
\nmarket, the news agency said.<\/p>\n
The new alliance involves cooperation in airport management --
\nincluding retailing, aviation ground handling and cargo, facility
\nmanagement and information and communications technology, AP
\nreported.<\/p>\n
By forming an alliance, the two European hubs will save money
\non overlapping activities, increase profits and speed up
\nprivatization plans, Schiphol airport spokesman Ruud Wever said
\nin Amsterdam.<\/p>\n
Preparations for the alliance will start in the new year when
\nthe airports begin jointly developing software and products, he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The \"first alliance between two important international
\nairports\" expands on a year-old cooperation accord between
\nSchiphol, Europe's fourth-largest airport, and its longtime rival
\nin Frankfurt that was aimed at boosting their global market
\nshare, a joint statement said.<\/p>\n
Wever said cooperation between airports was a logical
\nprogression in the industry as airlines increasingly build global
