Consortium needed to enter Europe<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): An Indonesian-Netherlands consortium should be
\nset up to make the most of the opportunities and facilities
\noffered by the Netherlands for Indonesian exports to the European
\nmarket, according to a prominent Indonesian entrepreneur.<\/p>\n
Tanri Abeng, president of Bakrie & Brothers, a business group
\ncontrolled by Aburizal Bakrie, told a seminar on \"Trade and
\nInvestment Opportunities in the Netherlands\" here on Wednesday
\nthat such a consortium would be able to use seaports in the
\nNetherlands as a gateway to the European market.<\/p>\n
The seminar, organized by Moret Ernst & Young, ABN-AMRO Bank
\nand the Indonesian Netherlands Association, was attended by
\nIndonesian and Dutch businessmen and officials.<\/p>\n
\"What we really need is a business entity, not an
\nassociation,\" Tanri said, suggesting that the Indonesian
\ncompanies which would join the consortium would be those which
\nare market oriented.<\/p>\n
He said many Indonesian companies were still family-managed,
\nso that business decisions are made by one person and business
\nstrategy is often based on lobbying.<\/p>\n
However, he said that an increasing number of Indonesian
\ncompanies were now being professionally managed with global
\nbusiness vision.<\/p>\n
He said that the Netherlands offered a number of business
\nfacilities, including strategic seaports and efficient
\ndistribution networks that could be used as the beach-head to
\nenter the European market.<\/p>\n
He said that the Bakrie & Brothers business group would be the
\nfirst to seize on the opportunity by establishing a joint venture
