Consortium denies report on Jonggol relocation plan<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A consortium has denied media reports they plan
\nto move Jakarta's central administration to the subdistrict of
\nJonggol, Bogor, West Java.<\/p>\n
Bambang Trihatmodjo, head of PT Bukit Jonggol Asri, the
\nconsortium for the Jonggol project, said his company did not plan
\nto relocate Jakarta's central administration. Bambang and
\nKaestindo Group established the consortium.<\/p>\n
Haryadi Kumala, president of Kaestindo Group, said Jonggol
\nwould not be converted into the center of administration. \"We
\nwant to make Jonggol only a satellite town,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The consortium reportedly plans to develop a new township,
\nwhere Jakarta's central administration will be included.<\/p>\n
\"It's not true we want to relocate the central administration
\nto Jonggol. Our development proposal is meant to raise the status
\nof Jonggol from a district, to a kind of township,\" Haryadi was
\nquoted by Antara as saying.<\/p>\n
\"Relocating the center of administration is not an easy job,
\nand is costly. How can our consortium afford that?\" he said.<\/p>\n
As a township, Jonggol would have its own government offices,
\nand people applying for land documents would not necessarily have
\nto go to the Land Agency office in Bogor, Haryadi cited.<\/p>\n
Jonggol is about 50 kilometers southeast of Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Reports said the Jonggol project would cover a total of 30,000
\nhectares, almost half of Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Fifty hectares of the area is allotted for presidential and
\nministry offices, the latest Kontan tabloid said.<\/p>\n
A new sports complex will also be built, and another 150
\nhectares are designated for recreational areas, forests and
\nagricultural sites, the tabloid said.<\/p>\n
Jakarta governor Surjadi Soedirdja said he hadn't been
\ncontacted by any parties concerned with the Jonggol project. He
\nsaid he only knew of the plan from newspapers.<\/p>\n
He suggested the developer take environmental issues into
\nconsideration, so Jakarta's environment would not deteriorate
\nfrom the project.<\/p>\n
In a related development, West Java Governor Nuriana said from
\nBandung the Jonggol project was still waiting for a permit from
\nPresident Soeharto.<\/p>\n
Nuriana was quoted by Republika as saying that everything
\ndepended on the president. \"We will issue the location permit
\nafter the president approves the plan,\" he said.<\/p>\n
National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) officials have
\ndenied reports they have received the consortium's proposal on
\nJonggol.<\/p>\n
Herman Haeruman, the board's regional division deputy, said
\nthe only project proposal received by the board is for a housing
\ncomplex, and a sports and recreation center.<\/p>\n
Nuriana said the Jonggol project would be discussed with
\nseveral ministries before being submitted to the president. (sur)<\/p>",
