Iran\u2019s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has confirmed that\nthe Strait of Hormuz will be managed by Tehran. He made the statement on\nTuesday, following talks aimed at ending the US-Israel war in the\nIslamic Republic.<\/p>\n
In the first round of talks held in Switzerland on Monday, Iran and\nthe United States agreed to establish a communication channel to keep\nthe Strait of Hormuz open and end the fighting in Lebanon.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Strait of Hormuz will never return to pre-war conditions and\nwill be managed by the Islamic Republic of Iran, in accordance with\ninternational law,\u201d Ghalibaf said upon returning from the meeting,\naccording to Iran\u2019s official news agency, IRNA, as reported by AFP on\nTuesday.<\/p>\n
In a video uploaded to Ghalibaf\u2019s Telegram account, he said the talks\nat the luxury Swiss resort of Burgenstock yielded \u201cgood\nachievements\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe this trip produced good achievements, especially regarding\nthe discussion on the Strait of Hormuz, the discussion on Lebanon, the\nissue of oil exemptions, and the issue of unfreezing blocked funds,\u201d\nsaid the speaker of Iran\u2019s parliament.<\/p>\n
The United States temporarily suspended sanctions on Iranian oil\nafter Vice President JD Vance said Tehran would allow UN nuclear\ninspectors to return to the country following the talks.<\/p>\n
As part of the agreement, Tehran will also receive some form of\nsanctions relief from Washington, as well as the unfreezing of\nassets.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course, we believe we are still at the beginning of this work and\nmust continue our efforts,\u201d Ghalibaf added in the video.<\/p>\n
Iranian state media reported that Ghalibaf also stopped in Oman,\nwhich shares the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
The vital shipping route, which Iran closed at the start of the war,\nwas reopened last week after Washington and Tehran reached an\nagreement.<\/p>\n
However, Tehran announced on Saturday that it had closed the crucial\nstrait again in response to Israeli attacks on Lebanon.<\/p>\n
