Conditions on Bira Island discussed<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Environment Impact Analysis Commission
\nevaluated a study yesterday on the environmental conditions on
\nBira Island.<\/p>\n
However, Ery Chajaridipura, head of the commission, declined
\nto give the results of the evaluation.<\/p>\n
Ery said that he will not comment until he has reported
\ndirectly to Governor Surjadi Soedirdja.<\/p>\n
\"I cannot say anything at the moment because I must report the
\nresults of this meeting to the governor first,\" Ery explained.<\/p>\n
Aboejoewono Aboeprajitno, head of the City Environment Office
\nand secretary of the commission, also refused comment.<\/p>\n
Yesterday's meeting was the fourth meeting regarding the Bira
\nIsland case. The commission turned down the developer's
\nenvironmental audit for the third time last February because the
\nreport failed to meet the standard.<\/p>\n
The audit is mandatory to ensure that any development will not
\nadversely effect the surrounding environment.<\/p>\n
The meeting was attended by representatives of the commission,
\nthe developer PT Seribu Island Paradise and non-governmental
