Computer failure upsets drivers license appliacants<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Computer breakdown at the new drivers license
\noffice in West Jakarta upset thousands of drivers license
\napplicants yesterday.<\/p>\n
Antara reported that at 11:30 a.m. the computers had still not
\nbeen fixed, frustrating applicants who had been queuing all
\nmorning.<\/p>\n
The chief of Jakarta traffic police, Col. Ansyar Roem said the
\ncomputer breakdown was the supplier's responsibility.<\/p>\n
\"The supplier must hire technicians at the drivers license
\noffice. They (the technicians) should have dealt with the
\nproblem,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Ansyar said he would have officers issuing drivers licenses
\nworking overtime to process applications. \"They should work over
\ntime so as not to disappoint the public\".<\/p>\n
He said most people thronging the office yesterday wanted
\ntheir licenses renewed.<\/p>\n
\"I'm surprised they have all rushed to get new licenses
\nbecause police have given people whose licenses have expired an
\nextra two weeks,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"Police will not fine them within the two week dispensation. I
\nguarantee this,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He said he hoped people would be more patient and understand
\nthat the more people crowding the office the longer officials
\nwould take to process the licenses.<\/p>\n
Antara also reported brokers had been offering services at the
\nnew office.<\/p>\n
Many employees (civilian officials), in white uniforms offered
\ntheir services.<\/p>\n
Brokers used to operate at the old office in the City Police
\nheadquarters although there were signs warning applicants against
