Computer expo to begin<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Computer Traders Association will
\nhold its fourth exhibition, IndoComtech '95, at the Jakarta
\nConvention Center from Sept. 6 to Sept. 10, an executive said
\nyesterday.<\/p>\n
"This exhibition is intended to show that our country not only
\nreceives technology from other countries, but also develops its
\nown," said Sonny Franslay, the association's chairman.<\/p>\n
Sonny explained that the domestic computer market is dominated
\nby imported products.<\/p>\n
"Imported products dominated about 45 percent of the market
\nlast year," he said.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the local content in locally made computers in
\nour country is still less than 50 percent, he said.<\/p>\n
Sony said that last year, the total sales of computer hardware
\nreached US$800 million, which is expected to increase by about 12
\nto 20 percent this year.<\/p>\n
He said the exhibition will be accompanied by a seminar on
\ntechnological innovations in computer hardware and software,
\nincluding Windows 95, the new 32-bit operating system launched by
\nMicrosoft Corp. last week.<\/p>\n
He explained that 76 companies will take part in the
\nexhibition, which is expected to attract around 200,000
