Complaints about factory<\/p>\n

The noise from a concrete producing factory in South Kedoya,
\nWest Jakarta is disturbing the peace of the residents in that
\narea. The noise is especially disturbing in the evening, since it
\nkeeps residents awake.<\/p>\n
Aside from the noise, the factory is polluting the area with
\ncement dust and powder, which freely contaminate the air,
\nespecially in the surroundings of Puri Kembangan.<\/p>\n
Several months ago, thousands of South Kedoya residents filed
\na complaint with the management of PT Betamix, after which the
\ncompany drafted a statement that they were prepared to cease
\noperations in the area and move the factory to another location.<\/p>\n
But what happened? The factory never stopped operating. We do
\nnot understand how this could happen. With the factory's
\nagreement to relocate operations, the company's move should have
\ntaken place by now. The authorities should have taken action
\nagainst the company for its failure to do so.<\/p>\n
The factory has been operating for two years. The residents
\nhave to cope with health problems. Most children living around
\nthe factory are suffering from chronic respiratory ailments
\nbecause of cement dust in the air.<\/p>\n
Thousands of citizens have repeatedly objected to the
\nfactory's operation in the neighborhood, especially since it is
\nnot equipped with a waste treatment facility.<\/p>\n
Several months after the residents delivered their complaints,
\nTrantib, a sub-branch of the local security sector, appealed to
\nthe factory to stop its activities. At the time, the company drew
\nup a statement that it was ready to move to another location. The
\nstatement was drafted in the presence of an official of the Biro
\nBina Lingkungan Hidup DKI Jakarta (Environment Bureau of DKI
\nJakarta). It should be noted that the factory is located in a
\nresidential area, not in an industrial area.<\/p>\n
We appeal to the Trantib authorities of West Jakarta to
\nrestore order in the area, in accordance with the Jakarta
\nadministration's town planning for West Jakarta.<\/p>\n
