        "content": "<p>Companies misuse permits<\/p>\n<p>TANGERANG: Dozens of companies have misused permits for<br>\nfarming activities and instead built factories on plots of land<br>\nalong the Cisadane River, said Suparno, the task executive<br>\ncoordinator of the Banten Water Resource Management Center<br>\n(BPSDA) supervising Cisadane and Cidurian rivers, on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The West Java administration issued the permits, which were<br>\nfor farming activities, to the companies when Tangerang regency<br>\nand municipality was still under its jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>\"Following an instruction from the Ministry of Resettlement<br>\nand Regional Infrastructure in 1999 on regional autonomy, the<br>\nfirms were no longer allowed to extend their permits and use the<br>\nland,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Suparno said he had monitored the Cisadane riverbank starting<br>\nfrom Pasar Baru dam and noted that dozens of companies still<br>\ncontinued industrial activities.<\/p>\n<p>\"The companies' activities can be categorized as illegal,\" he<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Supano called on the municipal administration to take firm<br>\naction against the companies for violating the permits. -- JP<\/p>",
